Mushroom Monday

It's currently Monday and I don’t think anyone’s human battery levels are super high on Monday’s, sometimes talking can feel like a chore even when you’re extroverted. Caffeine can really be a big help, but sometimes it just doesn’t do it! Especially getting the feeling of impending doom, it's not always the best to drink coffee. I will say, I tried quitting coffee for a couple months. That was rough, but I couldn’t just go cold turkey with it. I still stuck around with the caffeinated teas and the handy dandy tools of gourmet mushrooms! While there are many gourmet mushrooms that can give us an extra boost, I’d like to share my top three favorite energy & focus driven mushrooms! I am not a medical doctor by any means, these are just some friendly suggestions from one mushroom enthusiast to another.

Lion’s Mane (Hericium Erinaceus)

GOOD OLE LION’S MANE. One of the most heard of and recognized gourmet mushrooms. This one is a wonderful tool to have because not only does it lessen your fatigue by the production of new neurons, but it also helps promote nerve growth factor (NGF) stimulation. The Lion’s Mane compounds produce this NGF which plays a vital role in the growth, maintenance, and survival of nerve cells. Who knew we could potentially become more stabilized mentally from just one mushroom? It's beautiful! Lion’s Mane also potentially has antidepressant-like effects to the brain from the NGF stimulation. With the help of this, it can overall improve cognitive function.

How I use it -

I will cut up the matured Lion’s Mane into slices and sauté them with butter. Nothing more nothing less! It’s a fantastic snack or additive as a side dish to lunch/dinner. This can also be added with seasonings, I’m a huge seasoning fan myself but this I leave it without. I enjoy the natural taste of the Lion’s Mane as well.

I also will dehydrate the Lion’s Mane and later put them into vegetable capsules as a supplement. It works wonders.

Cordyceps Militaris

This one is a great one especially if you do strenuous work or partake in working out. The improved oxygen delivery that Cordyceps may provide is phenomenal due to the enhanced blood circulation. The stamina in our body can naturally increase from prolonged use. Hence, why it’s fantastic for those who are seeking oxygen to reach more of your muscles and tissues, resulting in the reduction of fatigue. Also, this healing mushroom has adaptogenic properties which helps the body adapt and cope with stressors more effectively. With less stress on the mind and body, it can help us maintain our daily lives without the feeling of being dragged down.

How I use it -

I will cultivate the Cordyceps myself and once they’ve matured, I harvest these pretty orange fungi and toss them into the dehydrator. After the dehydrator has done its job, I'll go ahead and grind the mushrooms up to then toss them into vitamin capsules as a daily supplement!

Red Reishi (Ganoderma Lucidum)

Red Reishi has wonderful adaptogens to carry throughout the body, giving us that mental and physical adaptation to later help us deal with stressors. Who the heck wants stress? Stress can lead to inflammation, agitation, and lack of sleep but Red Reishi is here to promote change in all of those issues. Reishi mushrooms can potentially help restore optimal hormonal levels to strengthen the cardiovascular system. With those issues being knocked down by Red Reishi, the energy comes full throttle.

How I use it -

I have been adding dehydrated Red Reishi to my teas for a while now, I just prefer to always use honey when adding any mushroom under the Reishi family. I also enjoy a fruity tea to knock back some of the bitterness. I would also recommend dehydrating the fruiting bodies and tossing them into vitamin capsules if it's too bitter.
