    Strain Origin & Features

Origin: The Malabar Coast strain of Psilocybe cubensis was discovered in the humid coastal areas of southwest India. Although there is limited information on its use in its native country, it is assumed to have been used for religious and healing practices. The strain has been popularized by Western mycology communities and psychonauts and is now a preferred strain in our catalog.

Features: Malabar Coast spores are dark purple to brownish, sub-ellipsoid on 4-spored basidia. The caps are generally smaller and do not tear away from the partial veil until full maturity. Even then, the membranous annulus (ring) on the partial veil remains attached, resulting in lighter spore deposits compared to other varieties. The spores you receive will be healthy and ready for microscopy use.

    Difficulty & Rarity

Difficulty: Malabar Coast is easy to work with, making it suitable for beginners. It is vigorous, contamination-resistant, and comparable to other popular strains like Golden Teacher.

Rarity: Malabar Coast is a relatively rare strain, making it a unique and fun addition to any collection. While not as rare as strains like Treasure Coast, it is harder to find than most popular strains. Sourcing truly pure and viable Malabar Coast spores adds an extra layer of difficulty.

    Cultural Significance & Additional Information

Cultural Significance: The Malabar Coast strain has roots in southwest India but has gained popularity in the USA, particularly among Indian Americans and mycologists interested in international fungi. Its popularity is expected to continue growing in the coming years.

Why Choose Spore Genetics for Your Malabar Coast Spores? For high-quality genetics with vigor, quick shipping, and no contamination issues, Spore Genetics is your best choice. Our Malabar Coast spores are consistent, plentiful, and easy to work with, ensuring a successful research experience.
